Racewalking Clinic 2011
Note from a Host: Annapolis in April lured 31 performance-oriented souls to our city’s first-ever Annapolis Weekend Racewalk Clinic. It also attracted Dave McGovern of the National Racewalk Team to serve as Chief Instructor of what's been an Olympic sport for about 100 years.
But no, no! You don’t have to enter races to be a racewalker. Why? Well, because it’s simply a method of walking. However, it happens to be the most efficient locomotion for a human biped. See that method as Dave shows his smooth 6-minute mile stride at http://www.racewalking.org/animated.htm while meeting the requirement of one foot on the ground at all times. His fluid action shows the joint-saving motion that can turn your walk into a full-body workout, achieving the benefits of running or jogging, but w/o a shock impact. I tell people that you can use this health-booster - - for all your walking life - - to foster physical fitness, or for age -group competition at state/national level.
My friend, Don Dement, widely-known photographer, shot photos of our class, which had visitors from 11 states and DC in their training as total novices or as veterans reviewing the basics. He caught this inspired crowd at indoor classes and outdoor action as they bonded and built skills across three days that started with a Friday evening POP (Pasta/Orientation Party - carbohydrates are vital for this weekend).
Don got his own workout at this event and may again, because Annapolis’ own Jean Moreau (of Team in Training) has volunteered to host The 2nd Annual Annapolis Weekend Racewalk Clinic. Yeaa! Get your picture taken in action April 27-29, 2012!
Charlie Boyle, Host, Annapolis Racewalk Clinic 2011

Note from Don re Charlie Boyle: He's 87. The USATF Masters named him record-breaking (3K RW) age-group National Champion and Racewalker of the Year, 2009 and 2010 !!!!
